Frontier Airlines Overview:

Frontier Airlines – Planes That Cross The North American Frontier
Based out of Denver, Colorado Frontier Airlines launched operations in 1994.It was founded in response to Continental Airlines’ 1993 shutdown of the companies Denver hub. The company was created by former executives of an earlier incarnation of Frontier Airlines that had operated between 1950 and 1986 before going bankrupt.

As a so-called ultra-low-cost airline, their slogan is “Low Fares Done Right.” The company declared bankruptcy in 2008 and was acquired as a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings. During the acquisition, Republic Airway Holdings was working to acquire MidWest Airlines. This resulted in the two companies, Frontier Airlines and MidWest Airlines to merge in 2011 although no MidWest aircraft was ever operated by Frontier.

In 2013, Republic Airway Holdings was approached by Indigo Partners to sell Frontier Airlines. The deal was finalized in December of the year, and Indigo Partners officially acquired Frontier for $145 million. Indigo contributed to Frontier’s evolution as an ultra-low-cost airline, causing the closure of it’s Denver and Milwaukee hubs.

Types of Planes and Routes:

Frontier Airlines’ Fleet is comprised of Airbus A319-100, Airbus A319neo, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A320neo, and Airbus A321-200. The entire fleet totals 146 aircraft of which the 20 Airbus A319-100s are due to be phased out. Currently, Frontier Airlines offers 59 routes throughout North America including the United States, Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

What To Expect:
As an ultra-low-cost airline Frontier offers no in-flight entertainment such as Wifi, TV, and Movies. While the airline allows one free carry-on or an item that must be stowed underneath the seat in front of you, they charge for any overhead luggage. Passengers may pay an extra fee for a seat assignment. Otherwise, they are assigned a random seat at the gate. Frontier does not offer any first class seating packages for its clients.
